Important as she is to the development of detective fiction, Anna Katherine Green still writes in a style and with a sensibility that the modern reader may find too melodramatic. The benefit of the edition is that it lets you sample a number of novels and stories and choose the ones you'd care to finish. And with Green it's good to be able to pick and choose.There's a drawback. The packaging is no-frills. There is an overall table of content with links to the 25 books that make up the edition, but the individual books have no corresponding tables of contents (especially inconvenient for the short story collections that the edition includes). In the main ToC, the books seem to be arranged at random, and with no date of original publication. Another inconvenience is the lack of illustrations, namely floor plans of murder sites and reproductions of evidence. I found myself referring to the facsimile editions of the individual works (in Google Books) for these illustrations.
I guess you get what you pay for ($1.99 for 25 books).

Such a prolific and interesting writer who keeps your interest, in various intriguing fields mystery, suspense and good writing for those of us who like a deeper read than today's page-turners.
...then you will enjoy this book! Even though it is a collection of mysteries and has fairly suspenseful plots with surprising endings, it also has some of the typical Victorian sentimental scenes.
A fantastic collection.
Romantic detective novel from the XIX from the first mystery writter.
Some may found the atmosphère a little to much victorian and depassé, but I really enjoy taking a plunge in another era. A must.
If you love old mysteries in another day and time, written the way many classic old novels were written, you will love her stories. I love Chesterson, Sherlock etc. and these are so engaging and enjoyable.
I read my first Anna Katharine Green story in a compilation of mystery novels. I had never heard of Anna, but loved the story. That prompted me to download her collected works. This woman had an amazing gift for grabbing your attention and keeping you engaged until you finished the novel. I spent MANY late nights reading her stories because I just couldn't put her down. I'm surprised I had never heard of her before. She is truly an unsung hero. I am glad I found this gem of a novelist!
I discovered Anna Katerine Green by accident and have loved the two mysteries I've read so far. Where has she been all these years? Her stories are full of eerie developement leading up to a climax, well-written and well-constructed. I'm really glad I found her!
Anna Katharine Green does a thorough job of getting all the facts of the mysteries spelled out. There are plot twists that keep the reader on their toes if you want to figure it out along the way. I found these mysteries entertaining and would recommend "Collected Works of Anna Katharine Green" (all 25 books) who like reading mysteries with a bit of a Victorian flavor.
