Agatha Christie was a prolific writer, and incredibly satisfying. But this one is truly her best. I mean it. Yes, I've seen all the negative reviews and am at a loss to account for them. Agatha Christie wrestled all her life with a central question: what makes people tick? In solving murders via her pen, Hercule Poirot used his little grey cells to find psychological explanations that led him to find the killer. Jane Marple used analogies to people she had known earlier (mostly in her home village) to do the same. But in Passenger to Frankfurt, Christie poses not a murder thriller per se but rather a complex question: as disaffection and even violence rise in the world, who is pulling the levers behind the growing youth movement that poses a malevolent threat to world peace, and what must nations do to stop them? Contrary to reports by commenters that the middle of her book gets lost, Christie actually maintains a laser focus on this question from beginning to end. An early protagonist in the novel, Sir Stafford Nye, finds himself both pawn and detective while developing a relationship with a woman who intrigues him but who uses him, for good or evil, he knows not which. Bits and pieces of the answer to the main question appear in a purposely distracting fashion, just as they do in all Christie books. World leaders play their roles as the story of the coordinated attack across the globe starts to emerge. Trusted British movers and shakers known by Sir Stafford or by his Aunt Matilda, including the delightful Mr. Robinson who has appeared in other books, weave in and out of the effort to pin things down. They work together at the end to solve the last of the mystery and travel to northern Scotland for the final denouement. If you'll just follow the characters as they try to grapple with what's happening, you'll find that it hangs together beautifully. Only at the end does one fully understand the role of the woman who intrigues Sir Stafford and find out what happens to their relationship. And the characters are wonderful, especially the delightful Aunt Matilda who's clearly channelling Miss Marple. As a passionate lover of Christie's books for decades, I've never read a better one. Give yourself a chance. Please put the comments aside, treat it as a real mystery rather than the philosophical treatise of which so many commenters complained, follow the trail of bread crumbs Christie leaves throughout the book, and see whether you don't find it one of your favorites, too!

Not my favorite Christie. I have nearly all of her books and have read most of them. I had a hard time getting through this one; it is not like most of the others. It's not terrible, but not a must-read.
Not up to the standard of the best Christies. But then I read them all. This one is better than most other mystery writers.
Normally an Agatha Christie book captures the reader's interest in the first chapter, but not this book. It was disjointed and jumped from one setting to a completely different setting. Evidently she was upset with the state of the world when she wrote this book. I was truly disappointed in the entire book and am sorry I wasted the time reading it.
I have read this book a few times, as I do with most of Agatha Christie's work. She is a favorite of mine and a good author can be enjoyed over and over and over and somehow it is always good and refreshing. Even though this is not at all one of her best works, I still find it entertaining and quite enjoyable.
I found it very entertaining. It is disjointed and seems to be a pastiche of an action thriller. I thought it was a great deal of fun years ago when I read it and it was this time as well. It is not one of her best books but I enjoyed it.

I have to be in a particular mood to read "Passenger to Frankfurt," because it is, as Agatha plainly says in her introduction, "An Extravaganza." You'll get to experience a little of a German airport; a lot of an ancient German "schloss;" a lovely German forest; Wagnerian music; several interesting characters & several grotesque ones; and a little about how the British Secret service works. It is not a parlor mystery like most of hers; it's more like an adventure. But one thing you should know If you want a really good analysis of Hitler & the Nazis, you will get one here.
